Banana Cream Pie
camping recipe

Category: Desserts   Rating: 10
Backpacking: No Effort: easy Serves: 3-4 Prep time: 1-30m

Ingredients:
  • 4 ripe bananas
  • 1 small box instant vanilla pudding
  • 1 cup graham cracker crumbs (or 1 graham cracker sheet per person, crushed in a ziploc bag.)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream

How to Prepare:
Slice 1 banana per person in individual bowls. Put milk, cream, and pudding mix in a clean, empty 20 oz soda bottle or similar sized container that will not leak. Shake pudding until thick and most of the lumps are either gone or very small (about 3-5 minutes -- great activity for kids!) Scoop pudding over the bananas (if using soda bottle, you can cut the top off of the bottle to make this easier.) Sprinkle each serving with 1/4 cup graham cracker crumbs.

CAMPING TIP

When camping with smaller children, put a bar of soap in one leg of a pair of pantyhose and tie a towel to the other leg. Secure pantyhose to a tree at your campsite (we knot the legs around the tree). Hang a hot-water shower next to the soap, and you have a handy washing station that will eliminate the need to walk to the restrooms to clean messy hands and faces. Note: Hanging soap is not bear-friendly.
